Coetir Clwyd / Living Galleries project - our wood-framed pictures... PDF Print E-mail

You've no doubt noticed that we've put up some wood-framed pictures by our local Holywell craftsman Ian Pickstock from the Living Galleries project. Here is some information about them...

Its aim is to help existing and new woodland businesses to make best use of woodlands in rural Denbighshire and rural Flintshire in North East Wales. It will do this by providing a test-bed and showcase for new ways of using the woodlands and marketing wood products, which will help protect the woodlands for the future.

The project will focus on ancient semi-natural woodlands and ancient woodland sites. In doing so it will raise awareness of the economic, natural, cultural and historic importance of these woodlands.

Ian Pickstock (Bizarre Furniture & Picture Framing) has crafted some georgeous frames containing pictures of some local scenes over the last century. Ian is a qualified carpenter and joiner who works using traditional methods to create both traditional and contemporary pieces of furniture. He studied Carpentry and Joinery at Yale College, Centre of Excellence where he was awarded student of the year 1997 and winner of the Henkel Award 1998.

The Story of Halkyn Mountain, now on-line... PDF Print E-mail

The Story of Halkyn Mountain Exploring Halkyn Mountain The Story of Halkyn Mountain is now available in PDF format from here.

The leaflet provides a great map painted from arial photogaphs and annotated with lots of interesting facts, a time-line so you can see what happened up here over the many thousands of years Halkyn Mountain has been inhabited and a view of the underground works that have made this place so strategically important since roman times.

We've also got a pictorial poster based on the central painting in our notice board and within the pub in PDF format here. This poster will give you a good view of what to expect to find on the mountain.
