Learners Conversational Welsh Classes every Monday at 7pm from 29th Sept 2014 PDF Print E-mail

ImageThe annual National Eisteddfod is perhaps the ultimate showcase for Welsh culture and we are doing our bit to help spread the Welsh word hereabouts. We've been holding conversational Welsh classes here at the Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn for a few years now and as we have had so many requests we thought we would start another beginners Welsh class with Deeside College. This course follows on from last year and if you've done a first year course (12 to 16 weeks of Welsh) then you should be OK.

Join the new continuation course Monday's 7pm-9pm from 29th September 2014.

A fun, conversational based course, suitable for those with a good grasp of the basics. We will check the level is suitable for you before you enroll. Having been going for a few of years now, our learners at the Blue Bell are no longer beginners! This is a foundation (Sylfaen) level course which means you have normally completed either Wlpan or Mynediad before progressing to the Foundation (Canol-Wlpan for an intensive course) level courses. However if you have some prior knowledge of Welsh this course could be suitable for you.

Coleg Cambria run Welsh classes at all levels throughout North East Wales, including beginners classes in Holywell, Mold and Deeside, as well as many continuation courses in the local area. Please ask for details of times, venues + levels. www.cambria.ac.uk

Dewch! Mae'n hwyl! Come on! It's fun!

The course details are:

Code: LA06561 Llanllawen 3 Module 4
Start date: 29/09/2014
Venue: Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn
Day and time: Mon - 19.00 - 21.00
Fee: £22 + course book
No. of weeks: 10

Having been going for a few of years now, our learners at the Blue Bell are no longer beginners! However, the course would be suitable for you if you have a firm grasp of the basics, and are able to hold a simple conversation. If you need a beginners course, leave your name with Ness or Steve. Alternatively, there's more information on the Deeside College site here and you can phone the college to enrol on 0300 30 30 007.

Why not give it a go? Learning Welsh is great fun, and keeps the grey matter moving!

There seems to be quite a bit of discussion here about the various dialects of Welsh, South Walian, North Walian and then there are even variations between Caernarfon and Clwydian welsh to name a few. We are going to concentrate on colloquial Clwydian Welsh which is the local dialect, although we will discuss the variations between that and the others as the need arises.

The Red Dragon - Y Ddraig GochIf you can't make our courses and want to do one in your own time then try the SaySomethingInWelsh website, don't forget, we speak North Walian here - that's proper Welsh! ;o)

A Welsh-English dictionary smartphone app called Ap Geiriauron is available for iPhones and Androids it should help with our Welsh classes here every Monday evening. More on the story here.

We also do a FREE conversational Welsh evening for Welsh speakers (if you've had at least 3 years of learning) on Monday nights from 7pm until about 8:30pm to help those wish for a bit of practice outside the classroom.

Rantin' Dogs here 2nd Mon every month PDF Print E-mail

Rantin' Dogs (that'll be the two on the right & the two on the left!)

The Rantin' Dogs - a fantastic sounding folk quartet (look I know there are 5 in the picture, they're the two either side of centre!), Steve, Dugie, Mark & Michael would like to let you know that they rehearse and play here every 2nd Monday each month from 9ish (after the Welsh class), playing traditional acoustic folk with a Celtic leaning.

As some of you know, we sadly and unexpectedly lost Steve Boyd, the boys are soldiering to continue playing.

Check out where they got their unusual name from here cos there's no ranting with this group, like all the music here at the Blue Bell Inn, it's a lovely sound.
